A Midsummer Night's Dream Act III

In A Midsummer Night's Dream act III scene 1 the actors for the play for Theasus's and Hippolyta's wedding start to practice int the forest by the huge oak tree. Bottom starts to take control over the play once again by saying that there should be an introduction before the play to warn the audience of the events that are going to happen in the play. Bottom goes off into the bushes when his is done with his role to wait for his next cue. When he is sitting in the bushes Puck the mischievous fairy decides to cast a spell on bottom and to turn his head into that of a donkey. Puck loves to play tricks on mortals and to see them making complete fools of them selves. Bottom then goes onto the "stage" to play in his next scene and all of his friends run off in horror thinking that they are being cursed by a monster. Bottom still has no idea that his head has been unfortunately replace with that of a donkey and thinks his friends are playing a trick on him. Meanwhile the fairy queen sleeps near by with the flower juice from cupids flower still sprinkled on her eyes and awaiting her to wake up. Bottom is determined to tell his friends that his is not phased by their foolish games and starts to sing. Meanwhile Titiania starts to wake up and she hears the beautiful sounds of Bottom. She immediately falls in love with him and tells him that he is going to stay with her forever. Bottom thinks nothing about this and agrees to what ever Titiania says.

Oberon starts to think about Titiania and what kind of creature she fell in love with. Oberon realizes that Robin put a spell on the wrong man and that he has raised havoc on the forest. Hermia thinks that Demitrius killed Lysander and yells at him for harming her lover. Lysander starts to compliment Helena and she still thinks he is playing a cruel joke on her so she doesn't believe him. Puck then is told by Oberon to find the lovesick Helena and put the flower juice on Demitrius' eyes to make him fall in love with her. When Demitrius wakes up he falls madly in love with Helena. Helena is now miserable because she feels that everyone is in on the joke. Demetrius tells Lysander to go back to Hermia and to leave him and Helena alone. Hermia enters and starts to talk to Lysander but he doesn't want her. Helena then thinks that Hermia is in on the joke and gets upset because she thought that they were best friends and almost like sisters. Helena feels insulted by all of them and decides that leaving or dieing will do her good. Lysander and Demitrius start to follow each other into the forest to fight each other. Puck leads each of them separate ways and eggs each of them on to fight. Demetrius and Lysander are exhausted by chasing after each other so they both lay down and fall asleep. Helena is also tired and exhausted and decides to leave her trip to Athens until the morning. Hermia is upset and cannot go on any further and lays down and sleeps.
